SECRETS: Telling the truth is probably more of a big deal for Killian, but his secret is probably his life of crime. He leaves town when things are getting too close for comfort and starts fresh somewhere else. It’s been his life for the last nine years nearly and it’s still how he continues to live.
PERSONALITY: If you asked Killian to tell you his personality there would be very little flaws whatsoever, but the truth is that the Killian people often see and talk with is a act. He comes across as confident, sometimes a little arrogant, and a total flirt. He’s got the bad boy act perfected and this is the life he often lives, too. He’s a trouble-maker, often spontaneous and usually doing something that at least bends most of the laws if not outright breaks them! He’s charming and can use words and turn a phrase to his advantage. Killian is also secretive and yet manages to hide the darker parts of his life behind a devil may care sort of playful attitude. He’s the kind of guy who would promise a girl the world and then aim to deliver it…although she’s probably not aware that his delivery would come with several stolen objects or some “minor” trespassing violations. He’s daring, no stranger to danger and he can be very impulsive and often acts before he really thinks everything through. However, while Killian is a thief and a magnet for the wrong sort of people, there is another side to him. He didn’t get into this life for malicious reasons and can actually be a caring guy to the right people. He’s reluctantly had to leave people behind before and some of those experiences do leave him vulnerable. Despite leaving so many behind with notes and nothing more, Killian is loyal to those who he thinks has earned his trust. It might not be in the most conventional of ways, but he looks out for those people. In many ways it was the chase for a better life that led him down this path and Killian does still dream of maybe one day having it all; not that he’d share that thought with anyone! He’s good with kids and often pretty friendly all around unless there is a valid reason for him not to be! He’s not a stranger to a fight and often causes them himself, though Killian doesn’t really boast a bad or violent temper. Sometimes it’s just frustration, sometimes someone else threw the first punch. Killian is a sore loser and sometimes comes across as bitter in terms of rejection. He’s a hard shell with a caramel centre, really. He’s got the potential to be good and even be great, but so far there’s not a reason to force him to break out of old, reckless habits. He can be romantic in the whole “climbing through a window at 3am” sort of way. Killian comes across most of the time as a bit of a womaniser, but in truth it’s a fear of loneliness that makes him seem that way. When someone does surprise him enough to creep through the cracks of his armour, he can actually be quite loving and sweet. However, this sometimes leaves him jaded since not many girls have stuck around once they find out about his life of crime tricks.

HISTORY: There was a happy family behind the doors of the Scott house and there had been for the last four generations. Jackson and Maddie were no different when they inherited the family home from Jackson’s parents. Their first child came along in the hot summer and Holly was soon accompanied by Killian. Jackson and Maddie has intended to end their family there, but over the years they ended up with another two daughters to round up their happy family.
Killian was their only son and Jackson wanted him to make something of himself to carry on the family name. It sounded ridiculous, but there had been generations of Scott men who had amounted to something and it was the way the family had been raised to insist that. As a kid, Killian didn’t really care about it. He idolised the man he called dad and would follow him about the house when he was at home, or he begged to accompany him on trips out. He was the perfect son. He looked out for his sisters, teased them from time to time and the whole household had quite the comfortable existence together. The parents had high hopes for their children and encouraged them to be the best they could be at all times.
At school, Killian started off on the right track. He was a good student, made decent grades and had friends that his parents liked. There were a few incidents of fights in the yard and a couple of missed pieces of homework, but “kids will be kids” and “boys will be boys” as the parents would say. At first there were no real causes for concern and a day without television or his favourite games were usually enough to teach Killian a lesson. It was when he got older and high school came around that things began to change.
It all started when he was looking after his younger sisters. Killian was sixteen at the time and one Sunday when his parents were busy with a local fete, he took the girls to Lake Tahoe for the afternoon. Killian had looked after his siblings before but this afternoon Amelia swam out too far when he was playing with Dalia. Luckily, Killian noticed before anything tragic could happen and Amelia was alright, but very shook up by the incident. Jackson blamed Killian for the whole thing, insisting that his son was irresponsible and a let down to the family. They were all things shouted in the heat of the moment when the father was still shocked by what could have happened, rather than the fact that it didn’t happen. Apologies were later issued, but Killian couldn’t let go of what his father had said.
From there, things spiralled. His grades slipped, he fell in with a rebellious crowd and his attitude changed. The only people who ever saw the old Killian were his sisters, but that was it. Teachers lost their temper with his bad attitude in class and his parents were quickly discovering that their punishments had no effect on their son anymore. It seemed that Jackson’s words only motivated him to be a bad son, despite the situation they had been said in. They were words the father repeated whenever Killian acted out and the vicious cycle seemed to continue.
The life of crime began as petty things. He’d take candy bars from a local store or shake vending machines…the sort of juvenile stunts that he hardly thought anything of, but later they worsened. His ambition chased off by this new need to rebel, college never factored as an option and Killian just about made it to graduation in the end. After that he met people who ran criminal activities; be them hustling in bars, conning tourists out of their valuables or picking pockets on busy streets. They were all tricks Killian picked up over the next few years and then after a few visits to the local police station and a caution, he left Carson City in a car that wasn’t even his.
That pattern soon became his life. He travelled from city to town when the need arose and when there he would fall into old habits. If he was strapped for cash then he could take a wallet or do an “odd job” for a shady character he knew through some “old friend”. There were close calls with the cops, some nights in the cells being questioned, but Killian was lucky that when he was suspected of a crime there was never any concrete evidence to send him to prison. It was luck more than anything that got him through that. Time and time again he would vow “this is the last time” and promise to make some changes with his life, but it never seemed to happen, even if he found a job to hold down for a short time or a place to briefly call home. There were people he considered changing his life for, but something always drew him back in. People popped up who he owed a favour to, or there was a job that would see him through for a while until he found his feet…there was always a reason to pick a pocket or steal something pricey. Each time that “one last job” usually left him with no choice but to pack his single bag and chuck it in the back of the same car he had used to get out of Carson City. The only thing that changed about that were the license plates occasionally.
He hadn’t seen his parents in almost five years. He sent them Christmas cards and birthday cards and called his sisters when he could, but returning to Carson City was a big no for Killian. He didn’t want the hassle of his dad, but his siblings he still cared for. He visited Holly and her family whenever her husband was out of town and played his role at doting uncle, but he left as soon as she began asking him about his own life and ways. The girls have his cell number and he updated them if it ever changed, but he’s not had a conversation with his parents in the longest of times and part of him doesn’t want to again, despite his sisters’ pleas.
Eventually, this life brought him to New York City. Killian had escaped from Miami by the skin of his teeth and it had been a slight reality check for him. This time he entered the city with the intention of fixing his life, but this was a promise heard before. He couldn’t exactly turn his back on everything he had known for eight years, especially when some of the things were almost second nature to him now. Eventually, after a few months of crashing on couches and in his car, surviving with stolen wallets and credit cards, he landed a job tending bar in the Marquee. It looked promising, but Killian is still in his old habits and a squeaky clean guy he will probably never be, not unless there comes a reason to really change his act…
