LINCOLN DOUGLAS LYSAGHT
FULL NAME: Lincoln Douglas Lysaght.
NICKNAMES: Link, pretty much always Link.
AGE: Twenty-six.
GENDER: Male.
SEXUALITY: Straight.
STATUS: Single.
GROUP: Citizen.
GRADE: N/A.
MAJOR: N/A.
JOB OCCUPATION: Handyman, works for himself.HAIR: Really dark brown. He tries to keep it looking passable, but it’s obvious he runs his fingers through it habitually. It grows out when he’s not been home in a while and his aunt hasn’t nagged at him to cut it again.
EYES: Brown.
SCARS/BIRTHMARKS: He has quite a few, but he barely pays them any attention. All the manual labour and odd jobs over the years were bound to scrape and cut, but Link thinks little of them.
TATTOOS: A feather on his right calf for his birds, and then he has a tree taking up most of his back. It’s a replica of his favourite tree back home that he’d climb all the time and it has really deep meanings to him. Leaving home was painful, but that tattoo makes him feel a little less distant from it.
PIERCINGS: None.
PLAY-BY: Penn Badgley!LIKES: being outdoors, home cooked meals, going home, an organised toolbox, guy’s night out, sports of any kind, growing his own fruit and veg, gardening, brunettes, plaid, a hot shower, mint ice cream, marshmallows, Italian food, spring time, swimming in fresh water, fishing, a cold beer, doing a good deed, birds, Tarantino movies, fresh lemonade, iced tea.
DISLIKES: bullies, his truck breaking down, shopping, seeing people upset, really spicy food, sunburn, when his muscles ache, insensitive people, people spending money on him, getting sick, lattes, frozen or processed produce, politics, complications, people who sound like they swallowed a dictionary, video games, being cooped up, people getting weird about his parents, liars, being reliant on technology.
FEARS: Elevators, sharks, morgues.
SECRETS: It’s not so much a secret but rather something Link chooses not to talk about. His parents were killed by a drunk driver when he was just three weeks old. Since he has zero memories of them he doesn’t get worked up or emotional over the loss quite as much as people seem to expect him to, which is why he doesn’t bring it up. People get awkward around him; first with sympathy and grief, and then later with a “what the hell” mentality when he comes across as uncaring. It’s not the case at all, but Link just doesn’t seem to react to his own history the way people think he ought to.
PERSONALITY: Link is an outdoorsy guy, and that much is obvious from the get go. He’s a practical man who is easily described as helpful. He’s always been a caring kind of guy who will go out of his way to help people, to make them feel better. It doesn’t matter if he knows them or not, Link will always help someone in need. He’s a loyal friend, and a reliable man who can always be counted on to come through for people. It also makes it easy for him to be used by other people who are prone to taking advantage of his kind heart. He’s family-centric man who hopes to have a big family of his own one day, hopefully sooner rather than later. Link comes across as quiet, but he’s a friendly guy who will talk to anyone, so long as he doesn’t think they’re a jerk. Link doesn’t tolerate people being mean or cruel to himself or others. He’ll stand up and defend anyone who he thinks needs it, which can be both a good thing and a bad thing. He’s not aggressive, but he’s not the kind to sit back and watch someone get kicked about or bullied. Link thinks of himself more as a peace keeperthan a fighter, but he’s seen his fair share of scraps when words aren’t enough. He’s fit because of his work mostly, but Link also enjoys hitting the gym every few days just to keep busy. Green fingers too, prefers to have all of his fruit and veg freshly grown and grows most of it himself, since he’s used to that way of life ever since before he could remember. Link is a sweet guy, and he’ll spoil a girl with cute gifts and attention. His only problem is that Link has a habit of moving too fast in relationships and scaring girls off in the past.MOTHER: Leona Kaitlyn Lysaght, deceased.
FATHER: Neville Tobias Lysaght, deceased.
SIBLINGS: N/A.
OTHERS: Magdalene Rose Fisher, 58, Maternal Aunt.
Abe Josiah Fisher, 56, Uncle.
PETS: He has an aviary of birds, and a four year old dog; German shorthaired pointer called Elisha!
HOMETOWN: Saratoga Springs, New York.
HISTORY: Leona and Neville met in high school, but they didn’t start dating until their early twenties, after years of Neville asking finally paid off. Leona was actually surprised at how great he was and it wasn’t all that long before she realised that she wanted to spend the rest of her life with him. It was a feeling that he shared and before long they were married in front of friends and family in the local church, with a big party afterwards for everyone who might know them. It was just before their first anniversary when Leona discovered that she was pregnant; a planned idea and one that made the perfect gift for their first year of marriage. Leona’s pregnancy was not quite smooth sailing, and she said countless times throughout that if Neville wanted anymore children after this one he would need to buy her some serious jewellery to make her even think about it. Nevertheless, when Lincoln was born on a fine October afternoon, Leona was a happy as could be. She said her little boy was worth everything.
They were the perfect little family. At least, to start with. Leona and Neville wanted to get ahead with holiday planning since Link was keeping them pretty busy lately, so they left their son in the capable hands of Leona’s older sister and fiancé at their farm. It was the farm where Leona herself had grown up, but she had never been interested in maintaining it, whereas Magda was. It was only supposed to be for a few hours while she and Neville hit the mall and the grocery store one evening to get everything done without the distraction of a three week old baby. What they never ever thought about was never making it home again. A drunk driver going twice the speed limit crashed into them in a head on collision. Paramedics tried to save Neville, but he was pronounced dead on arrival at the hospital, his injuries making it near impossible to recognise him. Magda made it to the hospital, but the internal damage caused claimed her life just twenty-four hours later. The drunk driver died, too after slipping into a coma and being on life support for two weeks, but that was little comfort or relief for the family.
Link had no memories of his parents whatsoever, and was taken in by his aunt and uncle who were looking after him that fateful day. Magda and Abe hadn’t planned to have children of their own since they were both not very big on the maternal/paternal front, but they couldn’t leave Link to their other relatives who might not be suitable for the role. His grandparents were in their late sixties and hardly ideal for raising a young child fulltime. So Magda and Abe took on their nephew and from the start they told him the truth. Link grew up knowing that his parents were dead and that he lived with his aunt and uncle. He called them as such, but when he was older he also told them that they were as much his parents as Neville and Leona were. He bought them presents on mother’s day and father’s day, and pointed out that they did the same job as the role stated, even if they didn’t have the ‘official title’. Magda and Abe might have protested, but they were touched and did think of Link like a son over the years.
He wasn’t the smartest kid in school, but he was kind of heart. His aunt had made him that way. He was also strong and fitter than most young kids. Link was keen to help out on the farm and his uncle let him. It was only little jobs when he was a boy, like feeding the chickens and watering the plants in the greenhouses, but when Link grew older the jobs grew tougher. By the time he was a teenager Link was doing most of the heavy lifting on the farm with his uncle. He woke up a few hours before school to help out, and then worked a few hours afterwards before fitting in time for homework between dinner and bed. Link was happy. He had a few close friends who he’d hang out with on the weekends, and there were the bullies who would mock him for living on a farm and try to use his late parents to poke fun, but Link wouldn’t rise to them and often just told them to get a life. He didn’t know his parents, and rarely grew upset over it. It was hard to grieve over something he didn’t remember. The photographs showed him who they were and told him that while he looked mostly like his father he had inherited his mother’s dark hair and eyes, but they didn’t offer much else. His aunt and uncle told him stories, but to Link they were just like stories in a book. He had never known his true parents and there was no changing it; he had come to terms with it a long time ago.
Link went to a small trade college that he only just made it into. He actually had no intention of attending school, but his aunt insisted on him having something behind him. There he took a couple of classes, but focused mainly on what he was good at. Link had always been best at manual tasks, and he was good with his hands. He came out of it accredited as a plumber, and later went back to pick up a few electrician tips, but never took that further since his uncle slipped a disc that same winter and Link was needed to work fulltime at the farm. Eventually, his aunt and uncle told him to head out into the world and take a few years living for himself. The farm would one day be his and Link wanted it, but part of that deal was that he live a life away from it for at least his late twenties. His whole life had been there and he needed to spread his wings, so he headed for NYC.
At first he gained employment under a lazy Irishman who owned his own ‘business’, but within two months Link had seen more dodgy repair work and lazy jobs than he had wanted to and quit. His uncle loaned him the money to set out on his own and Link started up as a handyman. His time on the farm made him perfect for odd jobs, and his qualifications meant he could do more than a few of the guys he saw listed in the phone directories and on the web. It was slow starting, but within a year he had regular customers who would call him for work, and he had his own van to boot. His long term dreams are still of the family farm, raising his own family there one day, but for now Link has his New York City home; an apartment with roof access where he’s developed his own little farm.
