PERSONALITY: Khelsi is a flirtatious young thing, who can be quite the minx when she wants to be. She’s a bit of a tease even when she’s knows better; it’s just always been in her instinct to get people wound up, and she likes having that power. There’s a hell of a lot more to Khelsi though than a bubbly social butterfly though. She’s intelligent and has the stomach to take a career of gore and guts. She’s a fighter when necessary, but Khelsi boxes for her own fitness, and because it was something her brothers got her into. Despite being from a huge family, she’s not very family-orientated, and much prefers her independence and her freedom. She loves them all to bits, and travels home for every holiday, but Khelsi doesn’t see herself having that big white wedding and then five kids to boot. The thought is something that scares her stiff right now. She craves excitement and can’t stand the mundane. Khelsi needs the rush of danger and the thrill of doing something she knows she ought not to be doing in order to keep herself from cracking her head against the wall. Khelsi is the type of girl who will try everything at least once, be it legal or illegal. She’s extreme and doesn’t hold back, which some people have said can be her worst trait at times, since not everyone can stomach the level of things she can. She has a morbid fascination with life and death and frequently comments on such things in a casual manner that some can find unsettling. She’s a bold kind of girl, uninhibited for the most part. She’s a firecracker, protective and wild at pretty much every junction of life, but Khelsi sees this as a good thing. Passionate and intense there’s never a dull moment in a relationship, but if things are to get serious she needs someone who can quench her thirst for adventure.MOTHER: Diane Dorothy Quinn, 60.

HISTORY: Diane and Stanley both came from large families, and when they met through mutual friends it was the first thing they bonded over. They understood the lack of privacy, the pain of having so many siblings to live up to, and everything else in between. It was a friendship that turned into something more, but when they both moved out of their bustling family homes to have a place together, they found that they missed the wild noise and the crazy lives that they had left at their parent’s doorsteps. It didn’t take the young couple long to realise that they wanted what they had left behind, and soon they started on their own family; the size of which would eventually be the talk of their neighbourhood. Diane was a dressmaker which was thankfully a job she could continue while she was pregnant and resume almost immediately after the babies were born. Stanley worked for the local paper, a journalist who over the years would climb his way up to editor.
Khelsi was the eleventh of thirteen children born to the happy couple, who married just before the birth of their first child. The house was always chaotic, and Khelsi knew nothing different. Every pregnancy was greeted with “not another one” and bets on whether it would be a boy or a girl, or another set of twins to make up a hat trick for the Quinn family. The siblings were all close, despite the sixteen years between them all, but they fought like cats and dogs on some days, too. The family home was always been renovated and expanded to fit their growing need for more room, since no one could expect all those kids to share rooms each time another baby came along. How thirteen ended up being their lucky number, no one knew, but Diane and Stanley were happy, and they coped brilliantly. They wanted this, they told people, and they raised their children with manners and well. They knew people expected trouble if they went out for dinner, but despite a slight increase in volume from a crowded table, there was no rudeness, no tantrums; the kids knew their place and they knew to behave in public. If they wanted to pull each other’s hair and throw a fit then they did that back at home where no one could see them act like brats.
Khelsi was always closest to her brother Daniel. They were thick as thieves, and got into all sorts of trouble when they were kids. They joked about saving the world together, and would play games where they did just that. Khelsi’s curiosity for forensic science and the morbid side of life began when a neighbour was found dead in their home. She was nine at the time, and she watched with fascinated eyes as the body was pulled from the house and the CSI’s swept in. The woman had committed suicide, but living alone the body hadn’t been found for three days until a relative had come to town to visit her. After that Khelsi said she would grow up to become one of those people in the white paper suits with the black dust and the purple lights. She began watching shows probably too old for her, collecting things that were morbid in nature. Daniel wanted to help people too, though he didn’t know how or with what yet. His mind changed every few weeks when he would choose to be something else that he had seen on the news.
Her desires changed when she was a teenager though. Khelsi stayed the same in terms of her likes and dislikes, but she came out of her shell more. Kids at school bullied her for just about everything when she was growing up; having a large family, liking skulls and things to do with death, the way she dressed….you name it, they bullied her for it. She had brothers and sisters to help her move on from it, and it was here when Khelsi learnt her love of boxing. It gave her a confidence of knowing that should things ever get physical she could defend herself. However, in high school Khelsi flourished into her looks, and then she held a power she had never been used to before. Suddenly she could make boys do as she pleased with just a flirtatious line, or a look. She became a bit more of a party girl, and those who had bullied her began to pay in little ways. For the girls she could mess with their boyfriends; never going anywhere, but just flirting with them enough to cause trouble. The guys seemed to forget that she was the girl they had tormented for years, but Khelsi used that to put them in horrible situations which would land them in detention or trouble with their parents. It was the perfect revenge, but it occasionally led to her own reputation getting dragged through the dirt, despite her virtue being intact.
She met a guy called Alex when she was a senior and at a party. Khelsi went to her fair share of parties during high school, becoming quite the wild child on the weekends. Her dreams of forensic science seemed like a laughable memory, since after high school she began cleaning and waiting on tables in Alex’s bar. She had a ridiculous crush on the man, who was ten years older than her. He wasn’t the type of guy to take home to meet the parents, but he was attractive, exciting and he knew exactly how to keep Khelsi coming back for more. Daniel tried to make her see sense, but Daniel had signed up for the army, and was away so much that he couldn’t really make his younger sister understand. Alex was going to break her heart, and he did, but Khelsi was young and naïve, and Alex knew how to play a girl to keep her coming back, acting like he could make things right again.
She was twenty-one, tending bar there for Alex while flirting with the punters and hoping painfully that Alex would see she was the girl for him, when life took a turn for the worst. Daniel was being flown back to Florida, critically injured. Things didn’t look good for him. Khelsi was at his side when he passed away, and her life seemed to fall apart in that moment. A few days later she was handed a letter that he had written in the event of his death. It was several pages long, listing memories of their lives and telling her how much he loved her as his sister. The last page was solely dedicated to telling her to get away from Alex, to go back to her dreams of changing the world, helping people. Khelsi felt like she had been brainwashed for the last four years, maybe longer. Daniel was right. She had once had great aspirations for her life, but had since wasted the last few years over a guy like she was some lovesick teenager.
Khelsi stormed Alex’s bar, making quite a show of him and everyone else in there. She trashed the place in her grief when he called her baby, punched him hard enough to break his nose, and then handed in her resignation with a middle finger and her fist through the jukebox. After that she packed her things and stuck around only long enough for Audrey to bandage her hand and for Daniel’s funeral. Her parents decided that she ought to have Daniel’s dog tags since they were so close throughout their lives, and the gesture brought Khelsi to tears again. After the funeral, she packed her things into her car and headed for New York City, and the forensics programme she had looked up when she was still just a kid. There were a few months before the year would start up, but during that time she found a job and an apartment to call her own. It was strange living alone for the first time, not having people barrelling in at all hours, but Khelsi adjusted and New York life was far from quiet anyway.
Now a junior, she’s found her feet and New York is a home away from home. She’s getting closer to achieving her dreams and she hopes to make Daniel proud one day, wherever he might be. She’s still wild, but she’s got a goal now, and she’s not as foolish as Florida once led her to be. Her head is on her shoulders, even when her feet are on the dancefloor.
