HISTORY: Natalie was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania to twenty year old mother, Catharine Evans. It wasn’t much of a life, as they lived in a very poor area of the city, but to Natalie it was the best time she could remember. It was a time when she knew who she was and who her family was. Catharine wasn’t the best mother ever, but she took care of Natalie as best she could. Apparently it was too much for her, because when Natalie turned three Catharine abandoned her at an orphanage.
From there, Natalie’s life became a blur of foster home after foster home. She was never in a foster home long enough to form any sort of bonds with. The only family she stayed with for a good deal of time, turned out to be her worst nightmare. That year was the year Natalie lost her innocence, but learned about more than she ever wanted to know. It was also the year she lost trust in people.
When Natalie turned 15, a family finally adopted her, it was huge family mostly made up of kids lost to the foster system as she was, but it was a family none the less. They sent her to a fancy school where she learned a lot about herself. She actually had the chance to make friends and lead a somewhat normal life. The life was far from normal in all honesty, but it was a chance at consistency and Natalie really did enjoy it.
After graduating high school, Natalie chose to move to New York City and attend college there. She has the desire to study psychology with the hopes of either becoming a school psychologist or a social worker. Either way, she wants to help children who might be going through what she had endured in her life. She never had an adult willing to listen or believe her story about the abuse she suffered, and she wanted to make sure no children would ever have to live that under her watch.

SAMPLE:Natalie Rivera’s jaw dropped at the sight of the words on her computer screen. Nick loved her? He had to be joking, right? No one ever loved her. Not even her birth parents. She bit her lip and stared at the screen. She just couldn’t believe what he was typing to her. Tears sprung to her eyes, but they were happy tears for once. Sure, she was still a little wary about his true feelings, but she believed what he said. After all, if he didn’t love her, he wouldn’t be on his way to her dorm to be with her. She found herself missing him a lot more than before, and couldn’t wait till he got there. All she wanted were his arms around her. It was the one and only place she felt safe, which was still weird to her, but she found herself longing for him.
Deciding she would lay down while she waited for him, she signed off of the school’s chat room. He assured her that she could fall asleep if she wanted, but she was still nervous about it. She didn’t want to have the dream, and she was afraid if she did fall asleep, it would scare her when he came in. She decided her best option would be to work on a drawing while she waited for him. She propped herself up on her pillows and opened her sketchbook. She stopped on a unfinished picture of family picnicking in the park.
She started the drawing a few days ago. Something about their sheer happiness inspired her, and she found herself mesmerized while sketching out the scene. In the scene, the mother and father sat on a blanket while a young girl ran around chasing a yellow lab puppy. It was a scene Natalie found herself wishing she could experience for herself. She had never been on a picnic before with anyone, let around parents who had such love in their eyes for their daughter. A small tear slipped down Natalie’s cheek as she longed for a childhood she would never know. As she worked on the picture with tears in her eyes, she slowly found herself drifting off to sleep…
