PLAY-BY: Thomas Brodie-Sangster!LIKES: Being alone, keeping a journal, dogs, jumpers, books, hot chocolate, smores, cookies, scientific journals, late nights, radio stations, cult movies, throws, skateboarding, NYC in the winter, New Year, gherkins, Twitter, podcasts, the subway, microwave meals, toffee popcorn, health checks, green apples, a warm bed, quiet, politics.
DISLIKES: Fighting, social situations, panic attacks, spicy food, burning a meal, soap operas, running late, bullies, action movies, blueberries, talking about himself, lying, funerals, his family home, formal dress, public speaking, getting sick, horror movies, wasp stings, sexism, feeling scared, shopping, huge crowds, public protests.

SECRETS: He never talks about his childhood with his family. He also doesn’t talk about how he’s terrified of wasps or that’s he’s allergic to their stings; thankfully not deathly allergic or else it might be a bit of an issue that he remains quiet about that.
PERSONALITY: Sage is awkward in many situations, especially social ones in which he’ll develop a stutter! He’s quiet and well-mannered but finds it difficult to stand up for someone in a fight. He’s non-confrontational and shies away from physical violence. Making friends is not always easy for him, simply because he can be very shy. . He’s fairly level-headed and his idea of fun is not quite the same as everyone else’s. It takes a lot for him to open up himself, and he’s not a fan of talking about himself, or talking in particular about anything other than trivial things or science. His sense of humour is lacking, though when it does appear it’s geeky and focuses on intelligent puns. Learning is one of his favourite past times and sometimes he can get lost in a book and forget about the rest of the world around him, making him late/no show for a few events in the past (like his high school prom!) Sage is something of a loner and frequently prefers it that way. He’s a man of few words at the best of times, which can make him difficult to befriend, but Sage is a sweet kid underneath it all. He’s just naturally awkward and comes across as being extremely uncomfortable. He’s got very little experience romantically beyond a few teenage crushes that went nowhere because he was too nervous and shy to do anything about them. He’s simple and not confident enough for grand gestures or big displays, but Sage would try to impress, if he ever found himself with the chance.MOTHER: Marley Harriet Wilding, 59.

HISTORY: For Marley and Elijah everything was perfect. They had the perfect careers, the perfect house, the perfect relationship, and the perfect family. At least, that was all before Sage came along. They had drawn the line at two children, fate having blessed them with one boy and one girl. It all seemed to work to their grand plan and everything was nice and neat, fitting into the little box they liked everything to fit into. Grant played sports and excelled at school, while Colbie danced and made grades that beat her brother’s. Some parents might not have pitted child against child, but Marley and Elijah felt that a bit of healthy competition would be good for their son and daughter.
It was almost nine years after the birth of Colbie when Marley started experiencing pregnancy symptoms again. She had thought it was impossible considering how hectic their lives were and how safe they were when they did find the time and the mood to actually sleep together, but the doctor confirmed that she was already four months along. Instead of celebrating or feeling blessed, she saw it as a spanner in the works. They had the children they wanted and the life they had envisioned. At no point over the last eight and a half years had they ever thought about having another child. It hadn’t crossed their minds for even a shadow of a moment. It was just not something they wanted or needed. However, once Grant and Colbie overheard the news it seemed too late. They were overjoyed at the thought of having a little sibling and it was Elijah who said it was too late to “correct the mistake” once they had heard about it and eagerly ran off to tell their grandparents, the neighbours, their friends at school and just about anyone else who would listen to them. Marley, unimpressed in every way, acted unlike many pregnant women. She paid very little attention to the baby growing inside of her, continued to work right up until the due date and let her own mother and father set up a nursery for the little boy.
When Sage was born Marley took a few days to recuperate herself and then returned to work. She didn’t want to go through raising a child for a third time, and so Sage was handed off to relatives for the first few years until he was old enough to be tossed into a pre-school programme. Once he was in school Marley and Elijah deemed him old enough to take care of himself, especially since it was taken for granted that Grant and Colbie would be around after their own classes and extracurricular activities to keep an eye on him. Sage never acted out because he didn’t know how to. He wanted the approval of his absent parents, but the only way he ever saw that given was when his much older siblings earned excellent grades in school or won some kind of award or achievement. That was the only way he knew that he had to work hard in class. So he did. He pushed himself probably harder than Grant or Colbie ever did. He stayed late at school in the library, studied texts beyond his level and worked to be at the top of his class in every class. Sage pushed himself so hard that he often neglected his own health. It wasn’t uncommon for him to pass out because he hadn’t slept or because he had forgotten to eat. There was no one around to check on him either, not really. Grant and Colbie, being much older, had lives of their own to live. Plus, it wasn’t long before they were both off attending university. His parents were done with raising children and were focusing on perfecting their careers, so they spared very little time for Sage. Even when their attendance at his school was mandatory, they would be checking their watches, rushing the teachers through what had to be said and barely even congratulating Sage for the hard work he was putting in to make sure that every single one of his grades was an A.
He committed himself so much to ensuring that his grades were perfect, just so he might earn some respect from his parents that he never made any friends. His social skills lacked in every way and he was a loner by every definition. He didn’t fit in with anyone and was a prime target for many of the bullies. Aside from a few of the older teachers, no one remembered his siblings by the time he started at the high school. Sage spent all of his life being well and truly alone. His siblings tried to be there for him, but the age difference made it quite difficult without any of them even realising it until they were much, much older. When it came time to apply to colleges, Sage knew he wanted to get far away from home. There was nothing for him in Atlanta, and the way he saw it there never would be anything for him there. His siblings had moved on, had families of their own now and his parents had turned into doting grandparents. He was still just the kid who didn’t fit into their grand design since he didn’t plan on having children any time soon – he hadn’t even had a girlfriend in his life.
So, Sage found himself in New York City, accepted to NYU and studying biochemistry. Studying, learning; it’s kind of all he has in his life. He’s been in New York for a year now, has found himself a job so he doesn’t have to live off the money he feels his parents reluctantly put to one side for him when he was growing up. They call once or twice a semester to do the standard checks to make sure he’s still breathing, but Sage is sure that they do it because Grant and Colbie tell them to. He still overworks himself to the point where he makes himself sick. He still pushes himself much too hard for reasons he’s not even sure of. Sage doesn’t know what he has to prove anymore, but he also doesn’t know how else to live his life. Pushing himself, striving for that perfection, and living for nothing else is all he’s ever known. Even if he wanted to break out of that routine, he doesn’t have the faintest idea where to begin.
