GROUP: Student.
GRADE: Freshman.
MAJOR: Geology.
JOB OCCUPATION: Teaposium waitress.

EYES: Green.
SCARS/BIRTHMARKS: She has a scar that bisects her lip from the night she left Breckenridge. Her mother threw the glass at her, but Reyes hopes she never actually meant to hit her. It was just an accident.

PLAY-BY: Danielle Victoria Perry!
LIKES: Baggy hoodies, cookie dough ice cream, fly fishing, camping, summer, high waisted clothes, morning mist, coffee, cabins, pine scent, Grease, record stores, having a balcony, messy hair, tea, movie dates, entomology, paprika, gin, blankets, taking her make-up off, snowboarding (the only good thing about winter), magnolias, snapchat, sour candies, mascara, pineapple juice, local folklore.
DISLIKES: Breckenridge – or how she came to leave it, sleeping in pants, toothache, sunburn, emptying her piggybank, non-scented candles, quick baths, unsolicited advice, cold tea, oversleeping, fighting with those she loves, April (the month), sorting through bills, bug bites, feeling overly emotional, her old reputation, feeling cold.
FEARS: Her family never speaking to her again, the dentist, losing Isaac after everything.
SECRETS: Sometimes Augury wishes Sapphire’s fate had been hers. She knows people would have missed her less than her sister.
PERSONALITY: On the surface of her life in New York, Augury seems smiley. She’s determined to make what she has here work, and works hard for it. She tends not to talk much about her life before the city, aside from mentioning Isaac, but that’s only because he’s there with her. She’s got a heavy heart, and her past is more than painful for more than one reason, but Augury knows she can’t lose herself to it. She’s a country lover by soul. Augury adores being outdoors; camping, fishing, the summer…all of it. She would live in a tent in the backwoods of nowhere if it was practical. She’s bold, and not typically the type to hide away how she feels or what she wants. Sometimes in lands her in trouble, but in recent years she’s gotten better at holding her tongue. As painful as Breckenridge is for her, Augury is constantly homesick. It may be a place she can never return to, but she lives in hope that one day things can change. She’s a curious creature, with a helpful soul. Her playful nature has ebbed a bit in the last few years, but it’s still there on the good days. Really, the biggest change in Augury is that she has a drive now to do something with her life; she never really knew what she wanted to do when she was back in her hometown. She’s still kept her flirtatious charm, sometimes not even realising when she’s batting her eyelashes at someone, but her heart firmly belongs to Isaac. The days when she would flit from boy to man are behind her, left behind with the rest of her things in Breckenridge. Still, playing coy is almost second nature to Augury, and having a sultry attitude just happens sometimes.

HISTORY: Dianna was the younger sister of Colton’s friend. They started dating after she pestered him whenever he was at the house when they were teenagers, but they drifted apart after Colton finished high school. A passionate reunion some time later saw them rekindle their romance and then it was only a short time later that they were married and expecting their first child. In all of Dianna’s pregnancies she found out what they were expecting, so there were no surprises and the names were picked out in advance before the baby was born. Renn came before his two sisters; Augury and Sapphire. They were all different, completely so, but Sapphire always wanted to be like her older siblings no matter the cost. It meant she broke her arm trying to climb a tree after Renn, and often came down caked in make-up trying to copy Augury’s style when she was older and Sapphire was left behind as her sister developed an interest in boys and left the dolls in the cupboard.
Augury came into herself earlier than most. She had growth spurts and grew out of her gangly limbs seemingly when nobody was looking. She was the first girl in her class that the boys started looking at, and she realised that. She already stood out, being one of the few with red hair, and freckles. In the early years there might have been some teasing, but Renn stepped in whenever she had cried, and in the later years that became power for her. She was like some exotic bird; beautiful and different. Everything was where it ought to be, and Augury liked being looked at. Looking back she’s not entirely proud that she paid more attention to boys than to her schoolwork, because she probably could have done better than what she did. There was a lot of backstabbing in Augury’s memory of school. Girls were her friend one minute and then hated her the next because she had flirted with their crush unknowingly, or because a boy had looked at her in a certain way when she came in wearing that dress. It was a cruel game and she was just a teenage girl trying to play it. There were plenty of times Augury would think about giving up, but then someone would ask her out and suddenly she felt like the world was aglow again. It was vain and stupid, but she was just a young girl and in a small town she never expected to leave, she was stuck with this idea that she needed one of these boys to whisk her off her feet; just like her dad had done with her mom.
Teenage boys didn’t want forever though. They just wanted now, and then whatever was the next best thing when they got bored. So Augury flitted from boy to boy and in a small town like Breckenridge that earned her something of a reputation. No mother wanted her near their son, and there were always whispers about whether she’d be pregnant before she graduated school. Augury was flirtatious, and a romantic, but she was not careless. She was stubborn though. And when her mother told her that she should change her ways before she became the town tramp, she snapped. Augury shouted that there was nothing wrong with living her life and it only pushed her further in the wrong direction. In truth, Augury was hurt a little more every time she heard the slurs or was dumped in favour of someone once the boys had had their fun with her. She was just strong enough not to let the rest of the town see that.
She fucked up, and had no plan for after high school. Honestly, she had no idea what she wanted to do and a life away from Breckenridge scared her senseless. They had never left the small town unless it was a camping trip. She hadn’t seen cities or other countries, and Augury didn’t know if she could do that alone. Even Renn had stayed at home, learning his trade from a mechanic who worked up Main Street. She ended up in the grocery store, flirting with everyone who came in as she scanned and packed their items. She hated the vest emblazoned with her name and the logo, but it was money, and she needed that if she wanted to stay in her bedroom; her parents would not accept a floozy and a slacker. It was at the store that she started her flirtation with Sheriff Isaac Frost. He was eleven years her senior, but so handsome. As far as she knew there was no one in the picture – she was a flirt not a homewrecker – and though he never responded, she kept playing the game with him. A big smile here, a coy wink there. Everyone knew it was just her way; she was a minx, pay no mind to her. However, unlike with some of the others who she flirted with because she just liked hearing someone call her pretty, Augury actually was attracted to Isaac. He was different.
Everything in Augury’s life was flipped on its head one day in April though. She was twenty when Sapphire didn’t come home one night. At fifteen, Sapphire was going through an awkward phase. She was trying to be more like Augury – experimenting with makeup and fashion, bumbling through early flirtations with boys in her classes. After telling Dianna she was going to meet some friends at the diner, she went out after school and didn’t come home. Augury was working until close at the store that night, she happened to see Sheriff Frost during that time, but before this nightmare unfolded. She was her usual self with him, flirting shamelessly with the older man the entire time he was in her company. When she got home, however, he was sitting on the family couch for an entirely different reason.
The search lasted six days. They found clues all over the county, and from the start it became apparent that Sapphire didn’t go to the diner at all. She had been lying for weeks about who she was talking to and where she was going. She had met up with a man in the next town who she’d been talking to for a few weeks, flirting with him on facebook. Sapphire’s body was found in one of the county reservoirs, and the man was arrested. He was only nineteen himself, but apparently when Sapphire asked him to take her home and tried to end their date early, he had lost his temper. Augury left the room during when they were being informed of the details; she couldn’t hear them, or imagine what had happened to her sweet, baby sister.
The murder wracked Breckenridge, and Augury was subjected to some of the blame. People whispered that Sapphire was trying to be like her, had even met him through her – which was a complete lie. No one would talk to her, and even at home it was a tense, broken place to be. Augury wound up knocking on Isaac’s door late one night just crying. She didn’t want anything from him, but there was nowhere else to go, and all she could think was that he might at least have a couch she could cry herself to sleep on. He might not have responded heavily to her flirtation in the past, but he had never been cruel, and she needed a friend more than ever. Needless to say, rumours in a small town are like wildfire, and the closer Augury got to Isaac the worse they became. Before Sapphire’s funeral even came around, Augury was probably the most hated person in Breckenridge – “How could she do this when her sister is dead?” “Maybe if he did his job instead of her, little Sapphire would still be here.” – and she brought Isaac down with her. Sapphire was only in the ground a day before Dianna snapped, too. She told Augury that she ought to have been looking out for Sapphire instead of aiming to sleep her way around Colorado. Her anger and grief was directed entirely at Augury, and she even ended up taking a bottle to the face which cut her lip up badly enough that it was still bleeding when she reached Isaac’s place half an hour after she was kicked out of her home with nothing more than the clothes on her back and the handbag she had still been holding.
He was packing up to leave town. A new job he never thought he would get was his, but it was a long way away in New York City. The thought of him leaving was soul crushing to Augury, but he stunned her by asking – no telling – her to come with him. She didn’t want to leave her family, but they didn’t want her. The fight might have been with her mother, but her father had Renn had let it happen all the same. There was nothing left in Breckenridge for her but a trashy reputation. She went with him, crying for the first day of the journey because she was still grieving and heartbroken, and her lip was definitely going to be scarred right through after confirmation from a doctor and stitches.
New York was a new start – for both of them. It took Augury a few months to find her feet. She was still grieving for Sapphire, and everything that had happened had been a lot to process, but she had him by her side the whole time, and that helped. He wasn’t like the others had been, and he didn’t care about what she had done in the past, or the boys she had dated around with. Eventually, after finding work as a waitress, Augury also started looking at college classes. Her grades from high school hadn’t been the best, but they weren’t abysmal either. Her love of nature, and of the earth, saw her being pulled towards a Geology course at NYU. She almost laughed when she realised she wanted to study it, but she wasn’t the same girl she had been four years ago leaving school. She’s better than that girl, even if she wishes that once day she can return to Breckenridge and patch things up with her family. If that never happens though, she has Isaac, and he’s more than she ever thought she would have.
