EYES: Blue.
SCARS/BIRTHMARKS: She has a beauty mark between her eyebrows but otherwise blemish free.
TATTOOS: Hebrew script running down her spine. She has never told a soul what it means. She's also sporting her grandparents names on her right bicep, her mother's name on her forearm, a Supergirl insignia on her hip, Om on the inside of her ankle across from the initials EA on her other ankle for her boyfriend who'd died while serving in the Marines.

FEARS: growing old, bleeding out, spiders
SECRETS: A birth defect stole her dreams of joining the military when she'd been eighteen. It's never stopped her from doing anything else so she doesn't see what the problem is but she still doesn't talk about it.
PERSONALITY: Maia is definitely a hit first ask questions later sort of woman. She lacks all patience when it comes to certain things. She absolutely hates clingy people, they're better off not even looking at her because she can spot them a mile away. She's no patience for drunks or bullies and isn't afraid in the least to pull any one of the numerous guns she has on her person at all times. With Maia there is only one chance. You fuck up and she will very much be done. It would take exceptional circumstances to turn that around. Despite all that lack of patience with idiots, she has an abundance of the trait for her clients. She's direct, doesn't take any shit from anyone and will most definitely tell it like it is but with them, she will try to be a little softer about it all. She doesn't sugar coat anything though and that's why her company is the most in demand. Obviously she has a short fuse but she doesn't apologise for it. She embraces those wonderful anger issues she has and focuses them into other things. She is very easily irritated, just about anything setting her off at any time. One day it could be the smell of the chip shop across the street and someone mentioning it and the next, it wouldn't faze her in the slightest; though in all fairness, it's not usually something so trivial. Though her work ethic is strong and she's quite stubborn when she's got something stuck in her head, Maia does know how to have fun. She's a charming woman who enjoys the chase that a flirty night can bring along. She's as much a calming presence to her clients as she is a menacing one to her opponents. And she is definitely not above fighting dirty to win. She's not so sure how she feels about romance these days but she does admit to liking flowers and gentlemanly gestures that are so hard to find these days. Nevermind the fact that she is probably too independent for her own good to ever rely on anyone outside her team. Maia is quite the feisty character and is very proud of that little fact. She's a tough nut to crack and it takes a lot to get behind the wall she keeps up but underneath it, there's a heart so big, it would shock. But that's just all part of what makes Maia so unpredictable and mysterious. She would be active then settled on the couch with a book but even she knows sometimes that's exactly what's needed.

HISTORY: Maia was born to Marcie and Jasper Blackthorn while they were stationed overseas; Tokyo to be exact. And she spent the next ten years of her life in Japan, making friends, attending school and going as any other child would. She participated in all the school festivals and functions. She ten going on when her parents were given the orders to be transferred. And off to New York they went quickly enough and it was the big apple where Maia stayed. Her best friend's family had also been transferred but a few years afterwards so there had been a long time where Maia was nearly alone, a little too awkward in the school, being the only one there with her background. Having Billy surprise her a couple years later was the best thing ever for her. And their friendship stuck through a lot of bumpy roads. It was them against the world, or rather, against the school. They had their inside jokes and they both spoke fluent Japanese which was something very few else did in their school. Life was good.
They saw each other through boyfriends and girlfriends, through the breakups and all the in-betweens of love and affection. It was always so sweet. Maia met Ethan when she'd been a senior in high school. He'd transferred in for his final year, having moved from Texas for his father's job. They got on well enough and he was of the same mindset as Maia and Billy. They all decided that after high school, they would join the military. It was almost expected of Maia and Billy but Ethan's parents were a businessman and a school teacher. They had expected him to become a teacher like his mother, in all honesty. He had the mind and the patience for it. But no, he wanted to serve and protect his country. Maia made it through the psychological testing and the endurance testing but she didn't pass the physical. It wasn't until she was eighteen and deciding to join up that she found out she had situs inversus with dextrocardia. The condition had been left undiagnosed because she'd never done anything to herself to end in up hospital for scans. She'd been a surprisingly lucky child, especially considering how wild she had been, climbing trees and acting like a little monkey.
However, it did mean that she couldn't be part of the military. And it broke Maia's heart for a long time. Her parents, Billy, even Ethan told her it was okay. That should would find something else to do instead. But it had been all she'd ever wanted. So she spent quite a bit of time brooding while her parents were still active duty, while her boyfriend and best friend went through basic training and then were sent off on their first deployments. She was left home wondering what they were doing instead of being there with them. And of course, when they called, they couldn't tell her anything. During their first time back home, Ethan proposed to Maia and she said yes. Of course she did. She loved him totally. And while he was off serving a second tour, she planned a wedding. She bought the dress, she booked the dates and sent out the invitations, all while attending school and getting a business degree.
This tour had him out longer than the first and she was in her senior year of university before he was due back again. No one heard from either him nor Billy and that was pretty usual so no one thought much of it. And then when she was expecting them home, only Billy walked through the airport. He was ashen, totally grey as he told her what happened to Ethan. And Maia's heart broke all over again; especially since she wasn't allowed to know what really happened to her fiancé. His parents were given his pension because they'd not been married but in a turn that had Maia balling like a toddler, they gave her the money instead. She told them not to of course, said she didn't need it but they insisted. They said she was meant to be his wife, they were going to walk down that aisle only a few days after he'd been meant to return home and so the money should be hers. She sat on it for a little while. She was twenty one, had a decent job that kept her in a lifestyle that was befitting a student. She hadn't needed to worry about rent since her parents had totally expected her to live with them while she was attending school and had even expected the newlyweds to take up the space until they could afford a place of their own.
And now, that would not be the case. Still, she was off with her father at the shooting range outside of the city when an idea struck her. They had to go so far away that it was an entire day's trip when they wanted to go. Completely ridiculous and there was enough money to start a small business saved up. So she started to plan and talk it all through with her parents who would be able to put in their opinions. It was a good idea and she knew it. At twenty four, Maia officially opened Fire Away with a contract with the military to have the men and women serve get a proper discount should they choose her firing range in the city. The building itself had been the most trouble. They had needed to make sure it was secure, had all the proper soundproofing for the surrounding businesses, she had needed to build up a few extra rooms that had been gutted when they bought the building for supplies and an office. Maia had been worried that it wouldn't take off, that her membership prices were too high but the doors opened and the people came. The price was well worth it. They didn't have to pay for the petrol to drive well out of the city for an hour at the range. And they had areas set up to mimic the outdoors because they couldn't have an outdoor range in the city. About a year later, the business was booming and while Billy was home again for a short visit, they got to talking again and he suggested, since she couldn't serve her country, she should think locally and not so much nationally or globally. There were no rules against her becoming a bodyguard.
Maia looked into it, went through all the steps and after a year, at twenty six, she became a proper working bodyguard and found she loved the work. She was hired on immediately to protect the teenage daughter of the senator after it was announced he was pushing a new bill that had a bit of controversy attached to it. She was young and though she was working, the senator thought she would be able to cope with Maia better than some scary looking guy basically stalking her. No seventeen year old wanted that. From that money and the bit she made from Fire Away, Maia started another business, Blackthorn Security. She had a list of clients before she'd even decided to follow through with this thanks very much to Senator Roberts so she knew that there was a market for it. She knew some people who were looking for work like this and so she hired them on. They got a cut of every contract they worked on, knowing it would still be a pretty penny. The first few years were busy and saw Maia travelling all over the globe with her clients and they saw Maia eventually hiring on even more people. Most recently, her best friend, Billy. She wished there was more, that Ethan hadn't been killed in action but at least she had her best friend with her to see her through the rest of her days.
