SEXUALITY: Straight.
STATUS: Single.
GROUP: Student.
GRADE: Junior.
MAJOR: Physics and Cosmology.
JOB OCCUPATION: Java Hut Barista.HAIR: Brown, shoulder length and straight – although she often braids it, so it ends up wavy when she takes them out. It’s not intentional, but she likes that practical style when she’s not wearing it down.
EYES: Brown.
SCARS/BIRTHMARKS: None.
TATTOOS: She has a trio of stars on her left foot.
PIERCINGS: Ears the once.
PLAY-BY: Daisy Ridley!LIKES: Stephen Hawking, theories about the universe, coffee – lots of it, freckles, soggy fries, braiding her hair, The Cheshire Cat, stargazing, her telescope, talking theories, a good night out, jellied eels, the Fallout Games, Tomb Raider games (just those two – she plays nothing else), Russia, grocery shopping, bakewell tarts, avocados, hockey, strawberry daiquiris, aloe vera water, her desk.
DISLIKES: Sports injuries, being scolded at work, talking about her father, when debates turn into fights, being overdue a haircut, product placement, having her sleep disturbed, unmatching pyjamas, her name never being on anything personalised, people not answering their phones, running (though she’s on the athletic team), bad action movies, roast beef.
FEARS: Being kicked out of school, bears, her dad never wanting to see her ever again.
SECRETS: She’s estranged from her father because of a dispute when she was seventeen over a few life choices Edyn made at the time, and her dreams for the future. She got into NYU on an athletic scholarship after her refused to contribute to her college education. She hates running now, but it’s the only way she’ll graduate and get to go on to chase her dreams.
PERSONALITY: Edyn is a very intelligent young woman, who is resourceful to boot. She’s independent and often won’t accept help from anyone else even for the smallest of things. She’s caffeinated any time anyone clamps their eyes on her, and it’s generally rather rare to see her without a cup of coffee in her hand. She’s athletic only because it’s getting her through college – at this point she’s pretty fed up of hitting the track and competing when she’d rather just stick to focusing on her studies. Edyn is passionate about the sciences and is ambitious enough to forge a career in them once she’s finished with her education. She can get caught up in debates and talks about what’s hot in the science community and there are times when she can let that take over her life and make her forget about other things. Edyn is also very stubborn which is a sort of extension of her independence, as well as many of the reasons why she refuses to budge at times. Open minded, she’s the type who will hear anyone out at least once before making her judgement – and Edyn isn’t ashamed to admit that she can be judgemental at times, and say some harsh things when she’s pissed off or annoyed. She’s not quick to temper, but she does explode hen things have built up over the day. However, she likes to think that the people who know her also understand that it’s a bad mood and a rough day that makes her seem mean, not actually anything personal. She’s a bit of a firecracker who tries to make time for love, but her schedule is so busy that there are times when it slips by, or she seems like she doesn’t care when she does. There are times though when people assume she’s flirting and she’s not. It’s just the result of being friendly and pumped on caffeine. It can lead to problems though.MOTHER: Dakota Victoria Valentine, 53.
FATHER: Carter Richard Valentine, 53.
SIBLINGS: Romeo Jake Valentine, 26.
OTHERS: N/A.
PETS: Dix, a German Shepherd of five!
HOMETOWN: Boston, Massachusetts.
HISTORY: Carter always wanted to see the world, and he found a partner who shared that passion in Dakota. They met at a coffee shop when a barista mixed up their orders, but they got to talking and eventually arranged a date, which led to several more before they decided to travel together. Carter was an old-fashioned type of guy who liked to spoil Dakota, and she never complained when he did. He worked for a company that had branches all over the globe, which made their travelling easier. He’d apply for a transfer to wherever they wanted to explore and then they’d head out there and start seeing all they wanted to see in between his shifts and Dakota’s pottery making. She sold them at local markets and craft fairs wherever they were, and often got a nice sum for them. They were in New Zealand when Dakota discovered she was pregnant, and they returned to Boston – her hometown – to get married and try to settle down. They had another baby when Romeo was four; Dakota gave birth to a little girl called Edyn. It was two years later when the married couple were struck by the travelling bug again. They didn’t want to live their lives in the same place, staring at the same wallpaper.
It was that reason that saw Edyn spilt her life in different countries and continents. Until the age of seven, they resided in London, England. Her parents could cover quite a bit of Europe from there while she and Romeo were often in the care of nannies if they wanted a break or went someone not appropriate for the children. At seven, they moved to Osaka, Japan where they stayed until Edyn was twelve and then came a move to St Petersburg in Russia which lasted for four years. As a result, Edyn was kind of out of place quite a lot, and her strangeness was something she grew to love. Her parents were rarely around to offer wisdom and guidance, but she made friends, and there was always a nanny who accompanied them who could give her tips when she liked a boy, or was struggling with school. She later became ashamed to admit that it was a crush on her science teacher that pushed her to look at the subject in more depth. She wanted to impress him. Of course, once the likes of physics and cosmology entranced her, she didn’t want to confess as to why she started looking at it in the first place!
She was fairly close to Romeo, but the four years between them did pull them apart. He went back to Boston for college when Edyn was just getting settled in Russia. He kept in touch mostly by e-mail when he had the time, but he mostly went on about how happy he was to finally be back home, to be settling down without the fear of being dragged to another country or continent. Edyn kind of longed for the same. Although she had enjoyed seeing different cultures and being tri-lingual at the end of it all, she wanted to have friends like in television shows; the ones you made at twelve and were still laughing with at forty. She couldn’t find that when she was never in one place for more than a few years.
At sixteen, the family found themselves in Boston for a short while. Edyn’s parents were trying to decide where to go next, but a bout of pneumonia delayed anything in the way of travelling for Carter. Edyn enrolled at a local high school for what she was told would only be a few months at most, but she didn’t want to leave. Romeo offered to lend her the spare room that he had with some college buddies if she wanted to stay, but she’d have to be the one to sort it out with their parents. There may also have been a boy at the high school who Edyn liked and was dating in secret from her parents. The conversation started badly enough, but it grew worse when Carter brought up Edyn’s grades, how she excelled in the sciences, but not in the humanities. He was of the mind that science was a man’s game – outdated thinking, but Carter was like that. Edyn expressed a desire to go onto college to pursue physics and maybe even study the universe, but it blew up in her face. She was granted permission to stay, but with the consequences that Carter never wanted to see or hear from Edyn again.
She moved in with Romeo, a seventeen year old in an apartment with two other college guys. It was a little unconventional, but she spent most of her time out of their way. With her father refusing to speak to her and Dakota keeping out of things – she only spoke to Edyn when she spoke to Romeo – she had to find a way to get into college. Edyn knew her grades were promising for what she wanted to study, but it was no guarantee of a scholarship. She did, however, run with Romeo when they were younger and she took it up again and fought for a place on her school’s athletic team. She ended up doing the longer distances, but that was fine with her. She just needed to get into college. It worked, and she got a scholarship to NYU, and then she joked her appreciation to Romeo about moving out of an apartment with two lazy men.
In New York, life plodded on. She found real friends who she felt could be there still in ten years, and she got a job on the campus. She had to attend athletic training and keep up her abilities, which ultimately led to her developing a dislike for running somewhere in the middle of her sophomore year, but she presses on for the sake of staying in school. Now a junior, balancing everything is proving taxing, and some sacrifices have been made where she wouldn’t want them to be. However, Edyn is sure it’ll pay off in the end.
