HISTORY: my father went over to england for a job, and he left with a wife and a baby on the way. i was born and raised in mexico, and we weren't rich at all. my dad did odd jobs, trying to make ends meet. my mother was normally a stay-at-home mother, but she sometimes sold baked goods or something for a little extra money. things were fine in our life, and i was pretty comfortable with life. when i was four, though, our house was robbed. my father wasn't home; he was off working in some other town.
my mom locked me in a closet, but i heard her screams. i waited until the next day to leave the closet, and no one had some to get me. i called for my mother, but she wasn't answering me. i found her in the kitchen, laying in a pool of her own blood. i ran back to the closet, staying in there for three days before my father found me. he dealt with everything, and he moved us away from that town. he got us citizenship for the united states of america, and we lived in texas.
we had a quiet little life after my mother's death. he worked most of the time, and i stayed at home in our neighbor's apartment when he wasn't home to watch me. she was an older woman, and she had a lot of grandchildren, who were always over there for some reason. i got to know them pretty well, and we all grew up together. we would always play outside or stay inside and watch movies. we never really ate home cooked meals, though. it was always a tv dinner. i grew sick of them after a while, but there wasn't much i could do about that.
when i was in sixth grade, my father met this woman. the woman was really nice, and i really liked her. the thing i didn't like was her spoiled brat of a daughter. she was always the center of attention, and she really didn't like me. she tried to push me out of the family, but my father always made sure i was included. sixth grade was also the year i started up in choir. my teacher always told me i had the voice of an angel. i always sang after that. it didn't matter where i was or what i was doing. you could always find me singing.
in eighth grade, my father got married to tatum, and her and her daughter moved into our little apartment. things with tawny and i just got worse. we constantly fought. tawny would whine to her mother about it, and her mother would throw a fit to my father. i was always the one in trouble over it. that's when i realized just how much i missed just having my father and my mother in my life. to avoid getting in trouble, i normally stayed after school to help the choir teacher with things. we became close, and she recommended me for the high school choir.
i sang in that choir, and i was in the musicals. they weren't always big musical parts, but i was still singing. practice took up more time, which kept me away from tawny and the rest of my messed up family. i got home in time for bed, and that was all. when the musical wasn't having rehearsals, i would be writing music or plays or creating choreography with the choir and theater teachers.
my sophomore year, my father moved us to pennsylvania because of a job opportunity. school there was pretty awesome. i joined theater, and i stayed after school for as long as possible to stay away from tawny and tatum. i kept my head down at home, and i shone bright at school. when i turned eighteen, i moved to new york, getting a job in order to afford a place of my own. after working for a year, i enrolled at nyu, and i've been there ever since, studying music.
