DISCLAIMER: This could possibly be the longest wanted ad ever, but let me assure you, it’s not that bad. Also, Duncan is a very particular man, and The Double LL is his baby. He’s going to be very selective about who works for/with him, and he’s not going to give much wiggle room for things. Let’s just leave it at he knows what he wants. So if your character doesn’t impress him, it’s nothing personal – he’s just a picky little ass!
So, this is a new monthly magazine, it’s still in its early days and it’s accompanied by a blog that they all update a few times a week with various things. The blog ranges from reviews, office tales, and general stories of the day to day life and world happenings. It’s fun, it’s keeping them engaged with their audience while they’re working on the next hard copy of the magazine. The magazine itself is very much about embracing life. It’s full of music articles, album reviews, new and upcoming acts – all of which Duncan takes care of since that’s sort of his scene. Beyond that it also covers food, from local haunts, restaurants (complete with tried and tested reviews and opinions from the team themselves) and recipes that they might love or find; could be mama’s lasagne, or it could be something they threw together as a student and thought ‘hey, that’s damn tasty!’. The bulk of it covers city life. The goings on, the people themselves. They hit up local businesses and residents for the interviews and pieces and really get inside the city to find the secrets and fill the pages with them. They’ll find the best entertainment, new silly things to try with friends and try it themselves (expect goofy photos of them playing laser tag, etc) and generally create this magazine based on what they love most about the city. It could be more, but like I said – early days. As of Duncan being created they had pushed out one hard copy of the magazine which sold reasonably well for a first print run.
However, he can’t keep saying ‘team’ or ‘gang’ without some faces to go with them. His rules for this are as follows You’d best check his app and figure out if you’re going to get on with him first. That’s a big thing because if you’re giving him grief, he’s tossing you out of the door, simple as. Duncan, as I said, knows what he wants and he won’t waste time on anything else. He wants his staff to be more of a gang who can work together than colleagues who tolerate each other. The job interview process (if he’s not headhunted you – please discuss with me first, I won’t like it if you jump the gun on that) is to spend a day with him and the staff, running about the city trying places and things and then to go away and write two pieces on it. If he likes the pieces (and you) you’re hired for a month’s paid trial. If at the end of that it’s all going swimmingly then the job is yours. No pressure like…
So, yeah. I know this is long and complicated, but it is kind of open for you to do with what you please. It’s vague, I know, but let’s roll with us needing writers for food, writers of varying kinds in fact, some more reviewers maybe, and photographers is a big must have, too. Definitely hit me/the thread up if you have questions and we can make some magic happen!
